Religeous freak goes to Book Club
No such luck, no god of love for me today, no happy string, no sing-song moments but then, it is sunny, I am in the finest city in the world, I was surrounded by beautiful people on the tube this morning (which incidentally was as pathetically inefficient as ever), I have had a big lunch at someone elses expense, we are not at war with Iran yet and work is not so arduous.
No naval gazing today, I am a lucky bugger and happy with my lot.
Writing it here when I was going to do a whinge piece today, is making the day brighter....
Writing the happy thoughts may make the figurative tomorrow more bearable (when all of this- job-lunch- no war- has gone tits up that is).
On the other hand it may all seem so transient and distant and "life was so much better then" so better perhaps not to write anything atall? Discuss...
Book club tonight and a review of Q and A by Vikram Swarup which is a most excellent read, good on India scary on poverty and street life- if it is as real as it seams then the god of love stuff cannot be referring to a sentient deity and we should be terminally happy all of the time not to be there. But still a good read and full of humour and human spirit.
Anyway what my fellow clubbies will make of it remains to be seen, not keen on new ideas, not keen on new experiences, not keen on Johnny foreigner and all that, would rather read Jeeves and Wooster- well who wouldn't. Except that everytime I pick up a Wodehouse I now see that hermaphrodite irritant whos' name I cannot even remember hamming it up (help required here please) as Jeeves from the TV serial. Spoilt- you better believe it.
Nomination to bookies tonight- Summer Lightning by Mr Wodehouse himself. Is it true that he was a bit of a facist nutter in his day? Can't see it in the writing but then I always liked James Stewart as well- Harvey the Rabbit was hardly a right wing polemic. You never can tell.
Anyway thank you blog for helping with my book club choice. No doubt it will once again be rejected but hey... Would this be a new idea- a virtual bookclub via blogs- share with me your selections and we can jointly select one to read and then review with a new recomendation next time out.... must be money in- mental note don't tell anyone great idea. Safe on the Blog then.
